He put the cell away and glanced up to see Jack there as the man spoke. Daniel frowned and shook his head, "I don't like this Jack. This prophecy mentions Hades and the Greeks and Romans would not use his name lightly. Whoever is behind this.... they might be doing the same to other worlds by now. Perhaps Vorenus' world is known to others," he said, his tone worried and grave.
"Is Daedalus available? We ought to check this out fully Jack," even as he asked, he knew that was a tall order. There wasn't much proof except for three Romans and the prophecy.
"I could see if I could find out anything else but I don't think Vorenus has any reason to lie,"

Jack O'Neill nodded his head. "I've already spoken to Colonel Reed, but it'll take them at least six days to get there on their way back from Pegasus. By then it may be too late to do anything for his people." He sighed slightly. "You may want to explain the situation to him, and return that gold coin if you haven't already. Maybe even ask him if he knows anything about Hades." He suggested. He wasn't having a brilliant couple of days; he'd had better, but as he thought more on it, he had had a lot worse. Being General was a tough job to fulfil on this base, but he liked it, he liked the people he could work with here.

"All right Jack, but something tells me he might appreciate it more coming from you. I get the impression he don't like you much and if it does turn out that this Hades guy is a new big bad guy on the block, he's going to be something of an liason between Earth and his world. I kinda got a date tonight,"
"A date?" Jac replied, raising his brow
"What? Us bookworms can have dates, you know, and I said kinda," Daniel smiled back.

"But that's tonight, it'll only take you a few minutes to talk to him. You're so good at talking to people, and you know I'm not any good at the politics stuff." He shrugged his shoulder, giving Daniel his look that showed just how much he disliked politics and having to sit with politicians. "Besides, he knows you and you know him." He paused for a second. "If it makes you feel better I am planning on giving them some better accommodation while they're here, seeing as we can't exactly send them off anywhere right now. And their horses are being well taken care of."

Daniel only nodded for a long moment before he replied, "Good, good," he breathed, thinking for a long moment before smiling slightly. "Yes, it might help him think we're taking him seriously and not joking him about," he nodded, getting up from his seat and gathering papers.

"All right." Jack nodded and headed for doorway. "Catch you later. Oh... and best not to take Vala anywhere near them." He smiled at Daniel slightly before completely leaving and heading back up to his office to fill out some more paperwork. That was the worst part of the job besides the politics... paperwork. Bits of paper here and there, folders left unread, half-read, some half hanging off the table and others on the floor. He did miss the gate travel, but knew he was starting to get on a little bit as it were.

"Oh yeah," Daniel replied nonchalantly, the mention of her name made him remember the medallion sitting innocently on his desk. He picked it up before he left to speak to Vorenus again.
--
Half hour later Vorenus found himself yet again in the room he had been in with Daniel and the black haired woman. The woman brought painful memories even though he knew Vala was not who he was thinking of. Still, there was water to drink which was good. He sighed and rubbed his face. "How much longer," he muttered.

Sam Carter was walking along a corridor and spotted Daniel just a little further ahead of her. She jogged to catch up and was soon walking side by side with him. "Hey, O'Neill just told us that they couldn't get through."

"Yeah, and I don't think that it going to brighten Vorenus' day at all," he replied, glancing at her, "Either way, something's going down. You want to sit in? I think Vala makes him uneasy and she's already pilfered from him."

She smiled slightly. "I thought you would never ask." She carried on walking for a few more steps. "So, how was last night with that woman, what was her name?"

He smiled as they moved towards the interrogation room, "Uh, Taryn, and we just talked. Discussed her thesis, and so on,"

There wasn't much point in lying, "Possibly. Just want to know how she did," he replied

Daniel only glanced at her before they entered the room.
Vorenus glanced up before scratching his jaw, "Well?"
Something told him that dancing around it wasn't going to sit any more than the news itself, "Ah, we can't connect to your gate,"
Vorenus blinked before he looked away. He sank heavily into the chair, his armour clinking with the sharp movement. "Then it has come,"

"There are a number of different reasons why that is. We're running diagnostics to see if it's a problem with our gate, plus we are sending a ship to your planet, but I'm afraid that it'll take around six days to get there." Sam added, knowing that what she said may not mean much to the man, or wouldn't give him any hope, but at least it showed that they hadn't quite given up.

He looked at her, his face gaunt before he sighed deeply, "Thank you... though I fear six days might be too late for the those left on my world."
"Vorenus... this speaks of a prophecy, it mentions Hades. You have any idea who that might refer to?" Daniel asked.
Blue eyes switched to him, "Who has not heard of Hades?"

Sam shrugged her shoulders. "Well, here on Earth he is only a myth." She replied. "Any information you could give us would be very useful."

At Sam's words the Roman snorted, "The Cimmerian folk said the same of their gods before they knew them by another name,"
"All I know is that he came up from below to remind us of Death in our past. My father told me this tale as his father had done, and so on. Hades is... Does your world not have an end of the world scheme?" he frowned.
"Wait... You know the Cimmerians?"
"Yes,"

Sam looked at Daniel. "Sounds like we need to get in touch with Gairwyn, she may be able to help a little more as well." She turned her attention back to Vorenus. "How well do you know the Cimmerians?"

"Fairly well... Since we found the gate, we've being playing around with what the engineers called a dialing circle. It was many days before they got it to work. Cimmeria was the world we first contacted. Gairwyn... A fine woman," he nodded, smiling with what Daniel read to be respect.
"You know her personally?"
"I am a high ranking officer in the 13th legion, and we were the legion sent to see what was behind the water, hm, vortex,' he seemed to say it as though it had been instilled through him by correction of those who knew better, 'and she is a leader of her people. This was all fairly recent. Weeks later, all hell breaks lose. We realised we were under attack and sought help. We don't have the ability to defend against Gods bent on showing the meaning of their bad side"

Sam sighed and hung her head slightly. "And this 'god' is Hades?" She queried, it seemed more and more likely that there was a Goa'uld out there going by the names 'Hades'. "And in response to your previous question, some ancient civilisations did have 'end or world' dates, but they've been and gone and we're still here... so..."

"Yes," hadn't he already said that, he mused, "But he is not a God to be messed with lightly... but I do not understand why he would do this, and now,"
"well, in the prophecy, it said to beware good times...."
Vorenus frowned, "We were punished simply for prosperity?" he shook his head and rubbed his face, this wasn't going to sit well with the boys back in the room.
"All I can say is to sit tight and we'll do what we can. You never know there might be survivors hiding,"
"I can only hope," Vorenus said something in Latin in his breath as he sunk dejectedly further into the metal set.

"I know it won't seem like much right now considering what you're going through, but General O'Neill has arranged for better accommodation for you and your men, and to assure you that your horses are being well looked after." She stated then turned her head to look at Daniel, whispering in his ear. "And don't you have something to return to him?"

"Thank you... my men will appreciate that, and I would like to see my horse. He's been through just as much as we have," he said softly before his brow quirked in curiosity
"Oh! Yeah, sorry, Vala is something of a habitual pickpocket," Daniel explained as he brought the medallion out from beneath all the papers. "This belongs to you," he held it out.
Vorenus hesitated before he did take it, "Thanks." Daniel watched the way he held the disc and knew it meant something more than just a victory or gold.
"Does Vala remind you of someone?"
"My wife.. Julia. She gave me this.... she came from a wealthy family, who didn't like me much. I'm a soldier and a Centurion's wage isn't like a Senator's," he breathed. "Your... Vala looks a lot like her." He put the disc away again.
"Besides, if she wanted gold trinkets, she could have just asked,"

"Not Vala, I'm afraid." Sam shook her head. "She's a treasure hunter, always has been and always will been, and most of the time she gains it in an unfair way, either through lies, cheats or just plain stealing. But she does have her uses." She added. "But I'll talk to General O'Neill and see what he can do about letting you see your horse. You must understand that there are certain protocols we have to follow here... most people on our planet don't know about the Stargate."

"Sounds like my daughter...." he trailed off with pained notes in his voice before he looked back at Sam and nodded, "I understand. Rules are rules," he sighed, "They're completely clueless?"
Daniel nodded .

Sam did as well. "Only a small handful of people who don't work here know about it. We're afraid how people would react to the news of something like this, which is why we've had to keep it secret. The repercussions of telling seven billion people about a device of instantaneous transport to others worlds and aliens could result in an all out war, especially over control over it. It's too great a risk."

He stared at her incredulously for a moment before shaking his head, "I know it's not my place to question how you do things but, haven't you got some kind of failsafe for such an eventuality?"
Daniel smiled slightly, "Oh, we have several"
"I hope so... if Hades finds your world... I don't want what happened to my people to happen to yours,"

There was a knock on the door and seconds later an airman entered, moving over to Colonel Carter and whispering something in her ear. "All right, thank you, Airman." She replied with a nod and the airman left again. She turned her head to look at Vorenus. "Your quarters are ready."
