Hoshi's words got an instant grin of approval from the Bounty Hunter, "And a good way to deter Klingons, I have found," he added as he followed them into the pod. He sat on the bench opposite one of the MACO's and Hoshi. It wasn't long before they were beginning their return trip.
"Storm's calming," Reuben murmured, quite interested in getting some sleep though what procedures these folks had for new comers remained to be seen.
"You know... we don't tend to hear English out this far. You speak it pretty well," Archer said as he piloted.
"Should think so... Bit hard to forget something you've grown up with," he wasn't afraid of his roots either but the how might be of some interest to them. His hands rose and he noted with amusement and some aproval as the MACO's reacted to the movement. He removed his helmet, revealing the rest of his face. He ruffled his own mop of hair before his blue-grey eyes met with Hoshi.
"I suppose you took a look at my vessel's database, did you?"

Archer's brow furrowed in confusion.... grew up with english? Out here and with that level of technology and know about the Klingons? that was impossible.... something he would have to question the man about later on.
"A little bit. I haven't fully translated it yet." The woman replied in all honesty.
A few beeps brought the crew's attention to the control panel at the front. Archer smiled a little bit, and pressed a button. "Archer."
"Captain. it's good to hear your voice. We were getting concerned, we'd not heard from you." It was T'Pol.
"Just had a little run in with the locals. We're on our way back now."
"Our sensors indicate there is a seventh human bio-sign on board."
Archer nodded his head, even though he knew the Vulcan would never see it. "We have a guest. Prep the guest quarters and have Phlox meet us in De-con."

"Very well, Captain. T'Pol out," the comm bleeped off.
Reuben tilted his head with confusion of his own, "What's De-Con?"

"Decontamination." Trip replied. "In case we've picked up any microbes or bacteria that would be harmful to the crew, we have to go through de-con first. If there is anything, Phlox will keep us there till it's gone." He explained.

"Oh, I see. Fair enough, wouldn't want to cause anything nasty," he replied with a grin but it was clear he was wary of it.
"Nothing to be afraid of," Hoshi replied.
"With you there, I won't be," he replied smiling. It wasn't that that bothered him. He wasn't used to being around so many people at any one time. He was so used to being by himself. A shadow loomed and he glanced to see the bow of the Enterprise before the pod was taken up into the bowels.
"I assume this Phlox is your physician?" "Yes, he's very good," Archer replied as he finished the docking procedures and they were back on board the Enterprise. "Welcome to the Enterprise,"
"An honour. I have heard a lot about your exploits."
Archer gave a short smile as Malcolm opened the hatch once the bay was pressurised.

The group headed into de-con where the Denobulan was already waiting to take the scans. "Welcome back, Captain." the optimistic doctor greeted the crew, and Reuben. "Beginning scans now." He announced. It wasn't long before the results came back. "you'll be pleased to know you've brought nothing back with you. You're all clear to leave."
"Thank you, doctor." Archer said, and turned to look at everyone with him. he moved to the door and hit a couple of buttons, allowing them to leave the De-con chamber and out onto the corridors of Enterprise.

The voice sound strange to Reuben's ears but he had not seen or heard a Denobulan before. He had not stepped on a human vessel until now. He was being very observant, looking at everything around him. Reuben followed them out on the corridors.
"I suppose you'd like those co-ordinates," he said, holding his helmet.

He reached into a pocket of one of his leather jackets that he was starting to over heat in. He tapped on the device before he gave it to Hoshi. "You'll find that strange language on there too."

"Whilst I may speak Queen's English... what's on my old vessel's system is technically Common. It's similar but different. Call it a present for getting me off that rock heap, and no, you won't find any personal files. I deleted those,"
"Hold up, you know what she was looking at?" Trip butted in and Reuben nodded.
"Yes, leaving a vessel doesn't mean I ignore it. When I came back, the Draakans were all over it. Deleted what I could.. couldn't have them figure out what or who I was. Then they used it to lure you poor saps down,"
"Since my vessel never had a hope in flying again, I figured might as well help out," he shrugged, "But yes, that will have what you need to learn it. It's become quite common now around here. Something about a need to communicate better. Do you have any food? I'm starved"

Archer sighed a little bit. "Seeing as we missed lunch, we're hungry too. Follow me. You'll need to learn where the mess hall is. The place you want to go.... any idea how long it'll take to get there?" And he began to head for the turbolift, Trip and Hoshi were following.
Malcolm and the MACOs on the other hand headed down to the Armoury to lock away their weapons. Reuben's interest in them made the Tactical Officer feel very uneasy about leaving anything like that lying around. With that done he let the two MACOs go and get some lunch, but there was something else he wanted to do first.
Since they had decided to keep the MACOs on board they had decided to keep the training sessions going between them and his Starfleet team, and right at that time one of those sessions was taking place in the gym, and he needed to see how well they were coping. As he walked in he could see they had taken to one on one sparring. It was Corporal Cole against one of his own men... or rather women, and it appeared that she was winning the match. The rest of them taking part in the session was standing to one side, keeping back, giving plenty of room.
After a few more kicks and punches, the Starfleet officer flipped Corporal Cole onto her back, giving out a loud cry as she did so to give her the strength. With that the match was over. Ensign Dani Mitchell had won, and a huge grin came over Malcolm's face at that little victory. Despite his hatred for the MACOs had gone, it was still good to see that the Starfleet officers under his command could still get a few good points against them.
Mitchell had only come aboard a few months ago, after returning from the Xindi mission, and so he didn't really know her that well. He'd never seen her on movie night, and she didn't talk much, often ate on her own. The only thing he really knew about her was that she was probably the best hand to hand combatant that he had in the team, a team that consisted of one female and all the rest male. Her firearm shooting was good, but she always seemed a little jumpy when they had to be fired.
After helping Corporal Cole to her feet, and each patting each other on the back and complementing for a good match, Ensign Mitchell turned to go and get her drink of water, sweat had already formed on her brow. She stopped at seeing Malcolm standing near the doorway, his arms folded over his chest, and the obvious signs of a smile on his features. "Lieutenant, sir!" She greeted him.

"Depends on your speed. You're a warp 5, right? Week and a bit. Probably two weeks if you get interruptions along the way," Reuben replied as he fell into stride with the American. It as weird being on a ship with others of the same race. He had not advertised it and he wondered if they even were bothered by it or not.
"Helmet do anythin' special?" trip piped up from behind and Reuben nodded.
"Keeps my face pretty," he grinned, glancing at the man, "Let's me see what I naturally cannot. Also scans and reads things, it's a delightful device and I'm not keen on losing it," he replied, not missing the shot of curiosity in what Tucker had said.
--
His smile deepened slightly. After so many years on board, his usual stiffness had dissipated somewhat and he was certainly better now at dealing with social situations. He was a lot less closed off. "I see you've been keeping yourself busy," he nodded, replying.

Corporal Cole stepped forward. "All right... session over for today. We'll look at something new next week." She said and the MACOs began filing out of the gym to go and get changed.
Dani and the five Starfleet officers stayed behind for a little bit longer, looking at their leader. "How did things go on the planet, sir?" One of them asked, knowing he had been on an away mission.
Archer and Trip soon arrived in the Mess Hall. It was practically empty, save for a couple of others who had missed the normal lunch hour. "So, how did you wind up all the way out here?" Archer asked, showing Reuben what there was and how to get a drink. "Coffee. Hot. Black."

He watched them for a while and nodded lightly, seeing the MACO's constantly around and being back in the Expanse brought memories he'd rather not recall. Malcolm glanced to the man who spoke and nodded again, "As well as things can for falling for an ambush,"
"An ambush?"
"Yes Ensign, the vessel we found was being used to send the distress call. We got down there, couldn't see or detect anyone about. next thing we know a grenade was flung in and we woke up in a cell," which reminded him, he was in need of a shower too.
"Bugger me if I know. You probably wouldn't believe me anyway," he replied ruefully, wary again but his truthfulness came through. It was a mixed bag of feelings. The fact that Archer and his people were the first few human faces he had seen in a very long time. It stirred feelings he didn't know how to deal with.
He ordered what Archer did since he didn't think the replicator would know even half of what he had been living on. He sniffed the contents and it brought a good feeling to his senses. He remembered well enough what it was but good coffee out in the Expanse was very hard to come by. "Damn, I forgot what that smelt like," he said happily to himself before realising Archer was staring at him.
"Try me,"
Reuben sighed and nodded before he settled his helmet on one of the tables, "You really want to know my pitiful story, huh?" Most people weren't that bothered with his background. All they care about out here was whether he could get the job done quickly, efficiently and discreetly.

"Call it curiosity." Archer said as he and Trip sat down at the table that Reuben had placed his helmet on.
"We've seen some pretty strange things out here... especially when those anomalies used to be around." Trip added.
With a slight nod to Malcolm, Dani picked up her towel and water and headed for the door.

"Strange..." he rolled that off his tongue before he smiled. He sat as well as he thought how to phrase it. It was an odd thing to cover one's story, and he never really thought about it before now. But then, in his line of work... it hadn't been relevant. There hadn't been much time to live in the past.
"You recall me saying I grew up with English," he started and Archer simply nodded, that frown appearing on his face, "Well, you're the first humans I've come into contact with for, hm... four, five years. One minute, I'm enjoying a beer on a beach in Spain with a good friend..." a friend that he had missed, "Next thing I know, I'm waking up with shackles and surrounded by scaly looking people. You know that feeling, when you're not in Kansas anymore, like a dreamscape that went horribly wrong. I spent two years... being bought and paid for," he wasn't going to elaborate on that. It wasn't a proud thing, "before getting back my freedom and going into my line of work."
He stared resolutely at the contents of his mug as spoke as if he found the words in the black abyss of his coffee. He sighed and sat back in the chair, and drank some of the liquid. "Xindi make good weaponry, but they know jack on good coffee," he said.
--
"And then?"
"We got help. If you don't mind, I need a shower. Just came by to see to things and check how you were doing," he nodded slightly and followed her out.

Trip looked at Archer with confusion. "We only made first contact with the Xindi last year.... That's impossible."
Archer looked at Trip and then back at Reuben. "What happened to your friend? Was he taken by the Xindi as well?"
Dani walked down the corridor slowly, wiping the sweat from her face with her towel. Being the only female security officer on the ship was difficult, but at least she had earned the respect the men gave her with her combat skills. Without those she'd probably be nothing, hiding in the shadows and still a crewman.

Reuben only shrugged, "You've only seen some of the rough crowd out here, from what I heard from gossip and rumour," he replied with a take it or leave it tone. "I don't know how I got there. I remember my old life on Earth, and this new life I've had to carve for myself. It's not fun being the one species out here that's considered on the weak side." he added before he drank more of his coffee out of need for distraction than a need to drink.
"She," he softly corrected, "And I don't know. Dont know if she came through as well or not, she wasn't with me when I woke. I try not to think about it," cause he missed her. It had ben painful to accept he was not likely to every see her face again. Accepting that had meant he was truly alone.
He looked back at them, "What you doing back here then? Not everyday I see my own kind waltzing around this area of space," Whilst he had heard of them, he had not seen anything of them.

"Came through?" Trip queried, Reuben's words were confusing. "What do you mean by 'came through'?"
Archer decided not to answer Reuben's question as Trip had asked quite a valid one. Everything about Reuben seemed a little..... Hinky.

"Bloody hell man," he sighed, he was growing ansty, frustrated and he was losing his nerves which was never a good thing. He had seen and done things in the Expanse that had he never wanted to go through again, feel again. All this talk was stirring memories he would rather forget.
"It's like opening a door from a time and place you know so well and then stepping through this doorway into a world where physics laughs at you and hangs you from one ankle. Like being dropped through a hole... I felt like bloody Alice in Wonderland if you must know, down a rabbit hole. Run your scans. I'm human enough,"
Though Reuben knew full well that whilst he was human, his humanity was nothing like it used to be. "To be honest, I'd rather be chasing that rabbit right now," he didn't have to think then, he could lose himself entirely to the hunt. Here, it was too close to the chest.

Archer stopped eating as he listened to Reuben. "Are you telling us, that you've travelled through time? Is that what you're saying?"
"And space." Trip added. "That would explain how he got out here all those years ago."

He stared at Archer for a full collective minute, "The closest thing they had for space travel in my time was NASA's shuttles. And that's what? Hundred years old news for you lads huh?" Reuben rubbed his left temple, a headache was encroaching and his appetite had all but vaporated. He pushed his food about with the fork, but the fact he was used to eating food in the forms of bars that contained all he needed to survive didn't help either. He had rarely eaten at any fancy restaurants, the food these people took for granted was something of a luxury in Reuben's eyes.
"You don't believe in time travel here?" he smirked before finishing his coffee and forced himself to actually eat. It as the first square meal he had in months. Still, he only managed half of it.

"Actually we do. Experienced it a couple of times ourselves.... the Vulcans still refuse to believe in time travel though, despite the evidence we've collected." The Captain took a long gulp of his drink.
"Though I think T'Pol believes in it." Trip added with a slight smile.
Archer thought for a few seconds. "We have a pretty extensive historical database on board. We'd probably be able to find out what happened to your friend, all we need is a name."

He raised a brow at hearing what they were saying before eventually giving up on his plate and pushed it slightly away from him. "Well, that's interesting,"
He was getting somewhat tired, it had been a long two days between which he had no sleep.
He supposed it couldn't hurt to say her name, after all... he didn't think it likely she had come through with him. Reuben debated the issue for a few minutes before he placed his mug down, "Dani Mitchell, when I knew her anyways," he replied before blinking and removed something from the corner of his eye.
He frowned as he noticed the looks on their faces, "What?"

"I can go look up that name right now if you'd like."
"Thanks, Trip... that'd be good." Archer nodded and with that Trip stood up and left the mess hall. The man noticed that Reuben had given up his dinner. "If you'd like I can show you to the guest quarters, you look like you could do with some sleep."

Reuben watched the man before shaking his own head. He was tired and he was letting it show. He nodded, "Thank you, Archer. I'm not going to argue," he stood and picked up his helmet. He had paid a lot of credits for it and was probably the most expensive thing he owned right now. He let Archer lead the way, trying to collect himself. why had this bothered him so much?
"It has all the basics. There should be some spare clothing in the cupboard but if not, let us know and we can sort you out"
"I'll be fine," he said, he had been for a while, scraping a living. Archer nodded and bid him good night before leaving for the Bridge. Reuben sighed as he entered, the door sliding shut behind him. He inspected the place but found nothing he would find suspicious. "Rabbit holes," he murmured before he stripped to his last layer and climbed into bed. He was out like a light.

Archer arrived on the bridge and moved over to Trip who was working at the computers in the situation area. "Hows it going, Trip?"
The engineer sighed slightly. "Well... I ran a search for a Dani Mitchell through the database. Got a hit... but you'll never guess what."
Archer just looked at him. "What?"
"There is an Ensign Dani Mitchell who works here on Enterprise, down in Security. The other things is, her personelle file, only spans back eight years when she joined Starfleet... before that there is nothing on her... not even a birth date." He replied, watching the Captain carefully as he brought up the Starfleet file on the Ensign.
"Boch said he'd been here for five years."
Trip shrugged his shoulders slightly. "I know, it doesn't quite fit... but maybe whatever it was that brought them here sort'a dropped her off earlier than him. It's the only thing I can think of."

Archer wasn't sure quite what to make of all this. The fact they had found a human out this far was stupefying enough but to think he may also know one of the crew on board more personally was something else.
"And you're certain that's the only Dani Mitchell on file?"

Trip slowly nodded his head. "I also ran Reuben Boch... there's absolutely nothing on him, not surprising if he's been out here all this time. It's possible when they went missing from their time, their files were deleted or closed."
