"Oh?" Phlox replied, having made it a point to know every crewmember's medical history.
"Was it something Captain Archer said?" Malcolm asked
"I can't count that out... but then I don't think he's had a life of luxury by himself in the Expanse either," Archer had seen that much, the man had seemed edgy in places when he had been talking about it. "I guess we'll just have a wait a while. See what tomorrow brings,"

Dani looked between the two men. She sighed slightly. "Not so much as what he said, but rather what he made me remember." She replied. She rubbed her temple slightly. "Nine years ago I woke up in a forest, injured and with absolutely no memory of who I was or where I was. It was a couple of days before I found a town... San Fransisco to be exact. A family took me in, nursed me back to health, they gave me a name and they treated me like family." She sighed slightly. "It wasn't till five months later that I started seeing visions and getting dizzy spells. My memory started to return... I was able to remember my name, what year I was born in, but most of my memories never came back, if they did they never made any sense. I joined Starfleet a few months later and that has been my life ever since." It was obvious she felt a lot more comfortable talking about things with Malcolm and Phlox rather than the Captain.
"So what Captain Archer said to you made you remember a memory?" Phlox inquired and watched as his patient nodded her head. "What was it about."
She laughed nervously. "You're gonna think I'm crazy when you hear this.... I was driving a car."
Trip nodded his head slightly. "If our Dani is the Dani that Reuben knows... do you think he'll still want to be dropped off on some planet in two weeks time?"

Malcolm frowned, the whole sense of what a car was had changed entirely in its meaning from the days of the 21st century, that much the Englishman. Phlox however had no idea.
"Car?"
"The petrol run things? But that's...." Malcolm uncharacteristically trailed off. They both understood the craziness and the seriousness of what she had just said.
"If he misses her a lot, I think he would want to stay. Something tells me he doesn't think she came through whatever it was that brought them," Archer replied and sighed.

"He's gonna want to know the results of the search... what do we tell him?" Trip queried.
Dani just looked at Malcolm and nodded her head. Words weren't needed for confirmation. "This is something I've never told anyone, but also another reason why my date of birth isn't on my file."

Archer nodded slightly, "First, I'm going to let him sleep and then get him checked over by Phlox. Just in case. He's been co-operative thus far," and Reuben had been co-operative. Hell, the man had made verbal assurance of that back on that rock. "Baby steps, Trip. I'm not sure how he is holding up... He could have easily had a hard time of it if he was at hands of the Xindi"
He knew he didn't have to say more. There wasn't any need. The man in the room had more than one reason to know what Jon was talking about.
--
"Understandable," Phlox replied. Malcolm really didn't know what to say. "I would suggest you take the time to rest,"

Trip nodded his head, understandingly. "Is there anything else to do on this matter?"
Dani nodded her head, remaining seated on the biobed. In the past when one memory had surfaced, others had been quick to follow, and she didn't really want her room mate to find out what was going on. This was big stuff.... time travel, memory loss... it was better she remained in Sickbay where Phlox could keep an eye on her.

Jon shook his head, "No... Best just get some rest, I think,"
--
Phlox nodded before he made some final checks and then busied himself about Sickbay. Malcolm nodded too, "I'll let you get some rest. Don't worry about those pistols," he said before he bid her good night.
--
A good night was far from Reiben's mind as mentally possible. He always had a nightmare. The same nightmare. An iceberg. A endles sea of freezing cold water. It was beautiful and deadly. He was on one side, his friend the other before the iceberg cracks and they drift apart. It was always the same. it may have other things intertwined but essentially those elements were never left out. He woke at some early hour in the morning his tossing and turning threw him out of bed.
He sighed, it was going to be a long day. His human kin were somewhat curious.

She nodded as he began to leave. "Lieutenant!" She called out to him. "Thank you, sir." And with that said she lay down and closed her eyes, drifting off to sleep herself after a little while. In her dreams random flashes of memories came back to her, but as it was all jumbled together she couldn't tell anything apart. It all happened so quick that she woke with a start and sat up. The lights were off, but still her mind couldn't untangle what she had just seen. She lay back down and went back to sleep.
"Good night Cap'n, Porthos." Trip finally said and left the ready room, eventually heading to bed himself.
______________________________________________________________________________
The next morning Captain Archer was standing outside the guest quarters and chimed the bell, waiting for a response from their guest. He had Porthos nearby as he was also taking him for his daily walk around the ship.

He had barely put his trousers on when what he had assumed to be a chime went. He grabbed his shirt and wormed into before he spoke, "Come in?" People made him nervous, though the way he had learned to deal with that often kicked in. He saw Captain Archer on the other side and smiled slightly.
"Morning," he stated as he put on of the thinner jackets on as well but chose to leave out the other two. The movement of something else instantly had his attention but he saw the quadruped and smiled awkwardly again. He hadn't seen a dog in a long time either.
He hadn't been expecting the visit. He supposed he had forgotten yesterday's events before they slapped him in reminder. "What can I do for you?"

"Good morning." Archer greeted him. "I thought I'd drop by to see how you were doing."

"I'm doing okay," he replied as he fixed his collar... he wasn't doing as okay as he pretended to be. His stomach and mind had been doing somersaults. Scratch the thought of a long day, it was going to be a long couple of weeks. He was used to nasty smells and bumps in the night. Enterprise's engines were far too quiet.
"this your pet?" he asked as Porthos looked up at Archer.

"Yup... This is Porthos." Archer replied and the canine barked once as his name was said. "I was thinking that today I would get Phlox to give you a full medical examination, if that was all right with you."

He blinked, "Porthos... Porthos... Wasn't he a musketeer?" he asked softly before shaking his head. Names, places, his brain was a minefield right now. "What kind of medical examination?" he asked, wary and distrusting of the sound of what it might be. He had heard it before but there had been nothing good in it. Whilst he didn't Archer or his crew to be of the malicious sort, he couldn't help but play things safely.

"Just to make sure you're in good health." He answered. "It won't be anything invasive... no probing.... just scans." He added.

"I'll hold you to that. The last man who threatened me with a needle got flung out an airlock with a grenade," he said, deadpan and it wasn't quite clear if he was telling the truth or just pulling Archer's leg. "Well, lead on. Don't know my way around yet," he replied.

Archer nodded his head and began walking along, Porthos following obediently behind.
Dani had already left Sickbay, with Phlox's permission, and entered the Mess Hall for some much needed breakfast. Glancing around she could see Trip and Malcolm seated at a table in one corner, talking, although what the topic was she didn't have a clue. Moving to the cabinets she picked up a bowl of fruit salad and some yoghurt before moving to the replicator. "Orange juice." She ordered and the yellow liquid was poured into her glass.

The door closed and Reuben fell into an easy pace with the slightly taller man. This place was unlike what he was used to. It was too pristine, with crisp lines and smartly dress crewmembers. It was like he was experiencing something out of an old naval war film that he vaguely remembered watching once.
Malcolm happened glance up and noticed her, "Scuse me sec, Trip" and he moved towards her after Trip had wordlessly nodded.
"Hey, you feeling better?" Malcolm asked, after all he was responsible for his staff and what kind of Chief would he be if he didn't care.

She turned her head to look at him and slowly nodded her head. "I am, thank you, Sir. Just getting a little hungry now."
Trip watched Malcolm and recognised the young woman from her file that he had been looking at the day before.
"The offer of new clothes is still open if you're interested." Archer stated as they walked down the corridor and into the turbolift.

"Why don't you come and join us? I'm sure Trip won't mind," he suggested, they were still eating themselves so it wasn't as if she would feel like the odd one out.
--
He glanced at the man before smiling, "Well, if you're going to insist," he smirked lightly. He supposed new clothes couldn't hurt.

Archer laughed a little. "I'm not insisting, just letting you know the option is there. Also if you need your clothes cleaned or mended, we can do that too."
Dani was a little hesitant at first, not knowing that Trip knew Reuben's half of the story, but seeing as they were senior officers she nodded her head and followed the man back to his table. She set her food and drink down, Trip watching her all the time. "Commander." She greeted him.
"You must be Ensign Mitchell." He held out a hand towards her and she shook it. "Malcolm's been telling me how you fared against Corporal Cole in the training session yesterday."
She sat down in the chair and watched the engineer. "I just managed to get a few good ones in, Sir."

"You got little elves too. Dandy!" he replied with a seriousness in his tone but his eyes gave his mirth away before the turbolift found the deck it was sent to and they walked towards the Sickbay doors.
--
Malcolm smiled as he sat and got back to his own breakfast, "One day, I wouldn't be surprised if you're teaching the sessions soon," he put it, another way of saying she ws getting better and better but then that was typically the nature of most in security. The need to better one's self and beat the rest.

She looked at him suddenly at his comment. "Oh... no, Sir... I'll never be that good." She tried to hide just how good she was, in truth Dani had never been good accepting huge praise like that. She was a woman in very much a man's world, part of her was thinking he was just saying that because of who she was.
They reached Sickbay and walked in, Porthos lay down close to the doors, but well out of the way so no one would accidentally trip over him. "Phlox."
"Ah, Captain... and Mr Boch... what can I do for you today?" The Denobulan greeted them with his normal optimism.
"Just want to make sure that our guest here is in good health."

"Besting MACO's is by no means an easy feat, Ensign," he replied but there was no denying the smile creeping to his face and Trip was grinning at this point, knowing exactly what they were talking about.
--
Reuben looked up and all around as they entered before that voice from yesterday sounded again and he looked to see the Denobulan. He supposed the man didn't have anything to quell nightmares as they drew closer.
"ah, I see. Well, let's get a good look at you then." he tapped a button and the bed slid out after the door retracted.
Boch frowned and shook his head slightly, "Why is it I can only see doctors dressed up in super villain outfits with they start bringing out the big toys?" he mused but nonetheless he took his jacket off. Phlox seemed a little bemused by the comment as Reuben lay down only for his top half to rise and point at the Doctor.
"No needles,"
Archer blinked, placing the man's jacket down on another bio-bed. Reuben definitely was a quirky and strange individual.

Dani just looked between the two of them and ate her breakfast in silence. She wasn't used to eating with people, let alone being senior officers. Her mind was still plagued by the memories she had had whilst sleeping and she was still trying to sort them out, but was having no luck

Trip watched her for a moment before sharing a glance with Malcolm, though the Brit understand how the Ensign was feeling. Dinner with Seniors was sometimes daunting, he knew that from experience.
--
"So?"
"Well, I will have to study this in more detail, but what if you say is indeed true Captain, his DNA will tell," Phlox replied as the screen changed, bringing up all there was to know

Post by Anteyra on Jan 7, 2013 23:32:19 GMT
"So what can you tell about him?" Archer queried, looking at the screen but he didn't understand any of it.
_________
The breakfast was difficult. Malcolm and Dani didn't know Trip knew of Reuben's story, and similarly Trip didn't know that Malcolm knew her story. The Mess Hall was becoming quiet as others began heading off for their duties.
"So... Ensign." Trip started. "You're not interested in meeting our guest?"
Dani glanced at him and then back down at her spoon. She sighed slightly and dropped it into the bowl, losing her appetite momentarily. "I don't know." She shook her head. "I know yesterday I said 'no' to Captain Archer." She then looked at her chief. "But now I'm not so sure. I don't remember the name... at all, and I'm still not so sure that I really want to. But after yesterday." She sighed again. Having told her story to two people had certainly helped her to relax a little bit.

"Well, he could do with getting some more square meals inside him," Phlox replied, "He is a little malnutrition but otherwise he is a healthy human male." He was reading as he was looking at the information that was appearing on the screen as it went more in-depth. "And yes, he is thrice your age f my scans are correct."
"That don't explain how he got through time, Doc,"
"Well, there isn't isn't anything to suggest anything otherworldly," he said absently as he was looking at something else before he looked at the door to the imaging chamber. Archer frowned, something was unsettling the Doctor.
"What is it?"
"He has signs if being... mistreated," he said
-----
Malcolm thought for a moment as he slowly put two and two together, whatever Archer had said to her, it had something to do with their new guest. Trip only frowned, not getting what she was talking about though he did get that it might have something to do with Reuben.
"Maybe meeting him would shed some light for you, help you," Malcolm said softly, "Sounds to me like you have a short window if we're dropping him off in a week or so,"

Archer turned away nodding his head before looking back at the Denobulan. "He did say he had been a slave for a couple of years when he first arrived in this era."
-----
She looked between the two men. "You think it'll help?"
Trip regarded her words for a second or two. "It wouldn't hurt to try, would it?"
Malcolm shrugged his shoulders. "Only if you want to risk nearly feinting again. But it would get you some answers."
Again, Dani eyes went between the two of them. Her head began to slowly nod. "All right." She took a deep breath. "I'll go and see him."

"You gonna let me out of here any time soon?" Reuben's call came from inside the chamber. Phlox nodded at Archer before he pressed the button to let the bed come out of the chamber. Reuben sat up looking between them, "Got all you wanted to know?" he smiled, "Not dying from anything I hope?"
In reality, he had appreciated the full check up. Being a Bounty Hunter, going several places in a relatively quick rate... it put a toll on his body and full check ups were never free and always pricey.
"You're healthy, though you do need to eat more and put on some more weight," Phlox replied giving one of his more peculiar smiles. "You sound like you haven't seen a doctor in some time, Mr. Boch,"
"They're expensive. Lucky if I see one inside three months," he replied,
----
Trip smiled and nodded, "Good... if you want me or Malcolm to come join ya, you know, for moral support, let us know. Cap'n won't mind,"
Malcolm nodded with agreement.

The young security officer nodded her head. "I'd like that, thank you." She replied.
"He'll be in sickbay getting a check up. We can go now." Once again Dani nodded. "All right." The Engineer stood up and took his empty plate to the disposal unit. Malcolm and Dani followed suit.
-----
"On Enterprise we don't charge for our services." Archer smiled slightly.
The door to Sickbay opened and two men followed by a woman walked in. Leaving Malcolm and Dani by the door, Trip stepped forward and moved round to the side of the bed so Reuben could see him. "Morning... I got the results of the search you wanted."
Archer looked at Trip with surprise. "Trip... what are you doing?"
"It's all right, sir." Trip assured him. With a slight nod, Archer looked at the door and could see that Ensign Mitchell was there, hiding behind Malcolm.
